Will taking the morning after pill more than twice a cycle be damaging to my health in the long run? - Gigi, 21 PDF Print E-mail

When you purchase the morning after pill, the doctor or pharmacist will usually tell you to take it as sparingly as possible and not more than twice per cycle of your period because it is only meant to be an emergency measure.

It is still unclear what the long-term effects of taking it too often are on your health and fertility. However, women’s specialist, Dr Priya warns that it will mess up your entire menstrual cycle because it affects your hormones.

“The morning after pill should be used only as emergency contraception to prevent ovulation. It’s easier, less stressful and a better idea to go on the regular pill if you’re having regular sex or in a relationship.”

As with any other contraception, the morning after pill isn’t 100 percent effective.

What say you?
Do you think the easy availability of the morning after pill encourages people to indulge in unprotected sex?
