I didn’t expect my first job to be so hectic! I travel a lot and have to keep track of and follow up on so many things that I’m quite overwhelmed. How can I organise my workload and priorities better? - Adele, 21 PDF Print E-mail

It sounds like you’ve got a lot on your plate! Not to worry though; a little planning and organizing can help you sort things out.

Get a good organizer or business diary and carry it with you at all times. Note down important dates, client meetings, priorities, reminders and so on in it, and get into the habit of checking and updating it daily. If your phone has an alarm function for reminders and notes, make use of it as well. Having a calendar somewhere on your desk and at home can also help you keep things in perspective. Note down new tasks immediately as they come in, so you don’t forget or miss out on them later.

Learn how to make full use of these things: your official office email (such as Microsoft Outlook), mobile phone, computer and other gadgets you may own, such as laptops, notebooks, PDAs and so on. Most of these items have useful functions that can really help you keep track of things at work, but first you need to be familiar with what they can do, plus all the work-related functions the devices are capable of. A notebook or PDA is worth considering if you don’t already own one, as these gadgets can be indispensable for a busy working person such as yourself.
