I’ll be going for my first big meeting with the upper management next week and I don’t want to do anything stupid. Any tips on how to impress my bosses? – Mun Lai, 25 PDF Print E-mail

For starters, try to find out in advance the agenda of the meeting beforehand so you can research and contribute relevant views. Likewise, if you’re going to lead the meeting, you should create the agenda and print it out for everyone in the room to keep them focused.

If you’re not the person who called for the meeting or chairing, don’t sit at the head of the table. Look for a seat at the middle of the table and avoid sitting in far corners because you would want to be seen and heard.

If you’re presenting the meeting, be sure to make eye contact and give everyone an equal amount of attention. Then, of course, you need to stand up straight but lean forward slightly when making a point. Also, when someone is speaking you should look at them (except while taking notes).

Most importantly, switch off your mobile phone and never, ever yawn in full view of everyone (discreetly stifle one if you have to!).
