I spend so much time on my emails at work that I barely have time for anything else. How do I prevent myself from being overwhelmed by my inbox? - Shahira, 22 PDF Print E-mail

A good thing to do would be to create separate folders for your official work email’s inbox. This can be easily done in Microsoft Outlook (or just flirt with that cute guy from IT and get him to show you how!) Label the folders to reflect their content and sort them accordingly, ie ‘Urgent’, ‘Invoices’, ‘Proposals’, ‘Personal’ and so on, so it is easier to sort out and prioritise. Immediately put all incoming emails into their respective folders and you should be able to maintain some order in your inbox.
Also, be careful of how much time you spend on personal emails at work. Try not to get too carried away with non-work related emails, such as jokes and forwarded messages from friends. They may be fun, but can significantly eat into your working hours, forcing you to stay back longer to finish your actual office work. It can also reflect poorly on you if Boss walks past your desk and sees you happily uploading last week’s drunken party pictures onto Facebook!
