If your work attire requires you to wear pumps, most flats will be deemed inappropriate unless it’s worn on casual Fridays! Two exceptions are the classic cap-toe flat, which looks professional and the solid colour slip-on that looks like a pump, but doesn’t have a heel. If your job’s dress code is less fussy, you can get away with trendier styles.

Choose a leather, suede or fabric instead of canvas and opt for a closed toe, which eliminates the ‘bare-feet’ suggestion. For heel-height, choose a slight heel: half-an-inch is better than a totally flat pair. Whatever you do, avoid a pair that looks like a slipper!
