I use foundation on my face but my friends say that I should top it off with face powder too. Is it necessary? - Viv, 23 PDF Print E-mail

beauty dec 09 face powderFoundation evens out your complexion but for it to stay put the whole day and keep shine at bay, you need face powder. In general they come in two forms: pressed powder (which is presented in a compact) and loose powder; and both come in a variety of finishes, such as mattifying, light reflecting and so on.

Oily skin will benefit from oil-free, mattifying powder but not dry skin, as the texture will enhance the appearance of flaky skin and fine lines. And instead of applying your powder with the provided puff, swirl a powder brush in your compact or loose powder container, tap off excess, then lightly sweep across your face for a natural-looking finish. Puffs tend to unload a lot of powder on your skin, leaving you with that terrifyingly cakey look.
If your skin tends to get oily very easily, you might find it useful to tote along a compact powder with a small powder brush for touch-ups during the day. Another useful shine reducing trick: blot with one ply of tissue. It takes away the unsightly sheen but doesn’t leave your skin feeling dry!
